We are in the middle of our first workamping position. We've been here almost four weeks and are getting the hang of things. We trade 20+ hours per week (emphasis on the plus) for our full hook-up site. The resort is in decline and is lacking strong management but the campground is gorgeous! We see deer often but never when we have the camera handy and a black bear wandered in one day but our neighbor was yelling "There's a bear! There's a bear! Do you see it?" so loud that it took off at a very quick pace.

Gone on a Jeep tour to La Plata Canyon
with Mild 2 Wild Rafting

Visited Hovenweep National Monument, which protects five prehistoric ancestral Pueblo canyon head villages AND allows dogs on the trail!

Stopped by the Anasazi Heritage Center, dogs are also welcomed here!
And went to the Bar D Chuckwagon for dinner and a show. Apparently it was a special night because not only did we see the Bar D performers but also the Riders in the Sky group. It was quite entertaining, and we laughed a lot too! Food was tasty. They boast that they can feed 700 people in 30 minutes. They've got it down!
Riders in the Sky |
Both the Jeep tour and the Bar D show were complimentary because we are workampers at Echo Basin and can spread the word to our customers. Nice perk!
We leave here on Labor Day and will go to our next workamping position at Desert Haven Animal Refuge just south of Truth or Consequences, New Mexico.

What a gorgeous place!!
ReplyDeleteCool pix... Colorado is awesome country...
ReplyDeleteThat half-empty (looking) campground has me salivating! It being August, the campgrounds in Europe are so crowded! Love hearing about Work-Camping -- and would love to hear more. Do you basically run the campground?
ReplyDeleteFinally, thanks for some pics on Colorado . . . I am getting a little USA homesick (again.)

The place looks beautiful. Are the ruins Indian or old encampments? You guys are pretty fortunate to have chosen this lifestyle as it seems to suit you both.
ReplyDeleteI just bought a bow mount electric rolling motor for the boat Wednesday but haven't mounted it yet. I also installed a new bimini top which will a welcome addition with the heat. Have not had to time to fish in the last 5 weeks or so with work and all. Looking forward to just getting back on the water. Gina likes this boat way better than the aluminum because she can lay down and catch some sun.
Heading down to Bishop on the bike in a few days to meet up with some California friends and spend a couple days catching up. Will ride a bit and party some as well.
Hope all is well and it sounds like it is!

Good to hear you're earning your keep. CO is a beautiful state. Thanks for posting the pix. Glad to hear you still have time to wonder around and see the sights now that you're back into a managerial position. Have fun - be safe.
