Dance Dialogue - Carrabelle February 15 - 22

Carrabelle is a small, coastal town in the Florida panhandle near Apalachicola (app-a-latch-a-cola) National Forest.
Picked Ho-Hum RV park, not for its name, but its location right on the water. Actually the reviews on RV Park Reviews made the decision for us. We stayed a week to reduce the daily cost. We had (or I had) great plans for our visit.
Ho-Hum RV Park
Willie was allowed on the beach probably because they considered it more a shoreline than a beach.  Still nice though… We were told it was possible to walk a ½ mile or so west on the “beach” but we never made it.
Shore Birds?
Hoped to kayak across Saint George Sound to Dog Island.   It’s only accessible by boat, ferry or plane!  Sounds cool right?

But our plans came to an abrupt halt the morning after our arrival when we awoke at 4:00 to Willie’s vomit on the bed between our pillows!  Yuck! It continued over the next few hours. Having experienced a similar situation last summer with Willie I knew it was prudent to get him to the vet right away.  The closest facility was in Crawfordville about 40 minutes away.  $300+ later he was diagnosed with pancreatitis.  It may or may not have been caused by something he ate.  He was dehydrated and his pancreas was inflamed.  They gave him fluids and meds and home we went.

He had stopped vomiting but switched to diarrhea.  That night was horrible!  Up several times so he could go out.  The following morning (day 2) he still wasn’t eating or drinking so back we went to the vet.  Left him there for several hours this time.  More fluids, different meds and more money then back home we went.
Had to bundle him up
because his temp was low
Day 3 and he’s still not responding well.  Now it’s Sunday and the vet’s office isn’t open.  We were in contact via phone and a different prescription was called into CVS and back to Crawfordville I went.  Bob begged off so he could fish off the pier.  Can you believe that?  Maybe I’m still a little PO’d about that!?!

It’s been almost a month since he first got sick and he’s better but still not recovered.  We have switched him to prescription dog food and continue to give him meds for the inflammation.  It was quite the experience! (and not in a good way)

The pier was a fun place to hang out!  I liked walking out because it was so long.  Bob thinks somewhere around 75 yards.  It was a very social place to go whether you fished or not.

We met several nice couples at Ho-Hum.  It is so interesting meeting new people and hearing their story! I especially liked “Lazy” Daisy, Seann and Tammy’s black dog. She was super friendly and very adept at watching the fish that were caught and placed on the deck for her.

We did do some sightseeing but between Willie and the weather it was limited.

Boardwalk to beach
I have never seen so many boardwalks!  All the beaches seem to have them.  I guess to protect the dunes…
Mullet Dip
As hard as I tried I couldn’t talk Bob into stopping to buy some smoked mullet dip.  He said it sounds gross!  Made me laugh every time it came up!!!

We also visited Apalachicola, a historic town west of Carrabelle. We did some shopping and enjoyed having lunch at Up the Creek Raw Bar. FYI: More than 90% of Florida's oyster production is harvested from Apalachicola Bay. Not that we ate any of them! I bought a t-shirt just because I like saying the name Apalachicola! It's now my favorite.

APALACHICOLA!!!
Say it with me…
